NO! We always try to work smart to avoid accidents and property damage due to negligence. Yes, things can happen as we all know.
Before you dig, you are required by law to call Pennsylvania One-Call at 811 a minimum of three days before you plan to dig. They will help you to locate gas, electric and other underground utility lines. I usually assess the situation of the proposed dig when we visit your property. Sometimes it's not necessary to call 811 due to certain locations on your property due to the depth of excavation.

YES, we all have in this type of business. Even after the customer has called Pennsylvania One-Call and everything located. One thing I have learned over the years is that the utility companies usually, 99% of the time locate the run of their lines but fail to give an accurate depth of said utility do to ground movement over the years. We have hit utilities that were supposed to be at a depth of 3' and hit them at 18" in depth, you just never know for certain. We are very aware and cautious to avoid potential problems while excavating, it does not happen that often.
YES, we try to keep the area as clean as possible while we work for safety reasons, and we will never leave any of our jobsites a mess after all work is completed.
As the owner of the company, I alone do all the estimating. Depending on the scope of the project, I may have an employee with me or one of my associates.
The estimate I give my clients is the fixed price to complete your project unless something unforeseen arises after work begins.
That all depends on the city you currently live in. It's always best to take the time to check with your municipality. Some townships require you to have a permit to reshape your land especially near property boundaries. Retaining walls may also requires a permit as an example.
YES, If site soil or rock conditions are such to prevent normal excavation and procedures, the owner/client will be responsible for additional equipment and labor expenses in order to accomplish proposed excavation of the project at hand that were unforeseen.
YES, with a specific amount of time (six months, one year, lifetime, etc). It all depends what type of job at hand.
Different contractors may offer different options when it comes to payment, we keep it simple. If no materials are involved for the project at hand we usually don't ask for a deposit, but that all depends on how big the job is and how long we will be on site. 1 or 2 days on site-No Deposit.
If materials are involved, we get 50% down of the entire project and paid in full upon completion.
YES, we take on only one project at a time. We never jump from one job to another.
